The Tri-City ValleyCats stifled the Miners, 5-1, in Game 1 of the frontier_league Playoffs Wild Card Round at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The Miners look to even the short series at home on Friday, September 5.

Rob Hensey (0-1, 0.00 ERA) kept the Miners close with a brilliant performance against one of the league’s top offensive teams. The All-Star suffered the loss, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters in his six innings of work. Reliever Parker Primeaux entered the seventh with Sussex County down, 2-1. The right-hander surrendered three runs on four hits and was unable to finish the inning. Will Silva shut out the ValleyCats in his two frames to give the Miners a chance.

Shortstop Will Zimmerman drove in the lone Miners run with an RBI single in the third inning, scoring catcher Keenan O’Brien. Second baseman Hunter D’Amato went 2-for-4. Center fielder Dom Johnson, third baseman Sean Roby Jr., and designated hitter Scott Seeker each collected singles.
