Today is National Purple Heart Day. 
If you know a purple heart recipient, be sure to thank them for their service and sacrifice. Here are a few facts for #PurpleHeartDay. 💜 The award's origins can be traced back to 1782, when Gen. George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit. 💜 The Purple Heart is awarded for wounds or death as result of an act of any opposing armed force, as a result of an international terrorist attack or as a result of military operations while serving as part of a peacekeeping force. 💜 The award was designed by Elizabeth Will and modeled by John R. Sinnock.
