Dalí painted his famous "Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea..." after reading an article on "The Recognition of Faces" by Leon D. Harmon in the November, 1973 issue of scientific_american. 

The article featured a 252 pixel monochromatic photograph of Lincoln, which the artist cuts out and inserts into the bottom left corner of the painting. #TheDali #Masterworks
