The U.K. deputy prime minister and housing secretary Angela Rayner has resigned after an inquiry into her tax payment on a home purchase.⁣

The independent inquiry found she did not meet ethical standards required for government ministers after she failed to pay enough tax on her purchase.⁣

Rayner, who admitted to the finding, said the report also found she acted in good faith, but that crucially, she should have sought more specific tax advice. ⁣

“I take full responsibility for this error,” she said in her resignation letter to the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. ⁣
⁣
Starmer said Rayner had made the right decision to resign, but said he was “very sad” to see her leave his government. ⁣
⁣
“I have nothing but admiration for you and huge respect for your achievements in politics,” Starmer wrote. ⁣
