At the Joffrey Ballet School, we believe that strong dancers are also strong musicians. Music Concepts, taught by our Director of Music, Bruce Lazarus, is an essential part of training for both the Ballet Trainee Track and the Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Track.

In this class, students explore rhythm, phrasing, and musicality—developing the ability to connect movement to music with clarity, artistry, and intention. Through guided listening and interactive exercises, Mr. Lazarus challenges dancers to deepen their understanding of how music shapes performance, building a foundation that enhances both technique and expression.

Music is the heartbeat of dance, and this class ensures that every trainee, across both tracks, learns to interpret and embody that rhythm in ways that bring their artistry to life.
