An inside look into GYTOxLasVegas presenter headoverheelsforteaching classroom's 'Book Tasting'! 

📚 Here's How it Worked: 
1. She gathered books from her own classroom library and sorted them by genre or book type. She did not purchase any new books for this event. The idea is to get the books noticed and used that you already have available in your classroom.

2. Joanne went over all of the procedures and expectations for the Book Tasting. They discussed how to preview a book. Students got to put on their chef's hats and mustaches, and I put on café music.

3. She has six groups of desks in her classroom, so that's how many genre/book type tables she created for this event. Students "tasted" a book at each table, completed their book tasting menu, and shared at their table. Then she allowed 2-3 students to share whole group. 

4. Students recorded their "must reads" on their bookmark. They could record a book that they previewed, one that was shared at their table, or one that was shared with the whole group. This bookmark will serve as a reference and a waitlist for books to be read all year.

5. They completed five rotations, and then students took one book from their list home to read. The entire event, including the fire drill 🤣, took about 1.5 hours. You could make it longer or shorter depending on your instructional blocks. 

This is an easy, low-prep room transformation that everyone enjoyed!
