This week is Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) Awareness Week.

HS is an immunological skin condition characterized by deep inflammatory nodules and recurring abscesses in sensitive areas of the body. Due to the nature of the symptoms and areas of the body impacted, HS is commonly misdiagnosed as an STI, boil, or other skin infection by doctors. The condition can be painful, embarrassing and take both a physical and emotional toll on the person impacted.
 
 As a dermatologist, I regularly see HS in my clinic and work with my patients on treatments and therapies, which often dramatically improve their quality of life. Many are just so thankful to have a diagnosis finally. 

This week is dedicated to increasing awareness, correcting misconceptions, and recognizing the struggles of those affected by HS.
