Today is World Press Freedom Day, a call to affirm the importance of cherishing information as a public good. It recognizes the changing communications system that is impacting on our health, our human rights, democracies and sustainable development. Here are some ideas for this week's #GivingEveryTuesday:
Contribute to local news organizations, nonprofit newsrooms, and public radio. Check out INN.org, which runs #GivingNewsDay - a GivingTuesday coalition campaign .
Connect with civil society and good government groups who push to strengthen transparency.
Advocate for freedom of press at the government level. Speak out against internet lockouts and seek accountability for all crimes against journalists and media workers.
