Dropping these two truth bombs about abortion that I so often see ignored in conversations about access, needs, marginalization and legality.

Abortion is a Non-binary Issue & Trans Men Need Abortion Access Too.

This needs to be repeated because a lot of folks still think that pregnancy is only something that happens to women. It happens to people of different genders and diverse sex characteristics who happen to have a uterus.

As such, it may be that a man, or someone you read as one, will need pills or a procedure. If a provider is not aware of this, discrimination or denial of access can occur. This is also crucial to know for those who provide support for people seeking abortions. If you’re not aware - your ignorance may cost someone’s health or even their life.

Of course, non-binary people can present in so many different ways - ambiguous, feminine, masculine. Please, always make sure you listen to someone seeking support or access and know how to respond to them. If they use a different name, don’t try to use their legal one, if they tell you to use certain pronouns - use them. This is not up for debate. It’s the only way to make sure that access is made easier and offered with the best interest of the person seeking abortion, or any other reproductive health service.
