## Caption

Alfredo Boulton might be known as a photographer, but he was also an art historian dedicated to promoting the art of his home country, Venezuela.

He was very interested in the pre-Hispanic pottery of Venezuela. Through his photographs, he documented the ceramic works seen here. By the late 1970s, he had published a book and curated an exhibition on the subject.

These prints are on view through January 7, 2024, in the exhibition “Alfredo Boulton: Looking at Venezuela, 1928–1978” at the Getty Center.
