We're going swimming, who's coming?

How badly do you want to jump into the water at the swimming pools in Leça da Palmeira, Portugal? Built in 1966, the pools were designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and combine the natural rocky seaside with elegant minimal concrete design. Siza sought to keep as much of the original rocky shore as possible to make it feel like you are swimming in the ocean.

Over the years, the ocean air and salty seawater have deteriorated the concrete and steel supports, which now need repair.

In 2020, Getty took the plunge by granting money for research into the structure’s condition and for a conservation plan for the pools.
