This thermal bath site in Morocco has a complicated history.

In 1958, the construction of the brutalist structures that house the Sidi Harazem baths displaced villagers whose ancestors had lived on the same land for generations.

In 2017, when the Getty Foundation’s Keeping It Modern initiative became involved with the site to preserve the crumbling architecture, the locals’ relationship to the site was much different.

At our link in bio, discover how a Moroccan-born architect and activist worked with locals to turn the structure from a symbol of oppression to a site of community revitalization and rehabilitation.
