## Caption

During the final phase of the ancient Persian Empire, the Sasanian period (AD 224-651), luxurious silver vessels were central to court life.

Aristocratic men of Sasanian society affirmed their high status through a ritualized drinking party known as the bazm. During the bazm, men used tall ewers for pouring wine, shallow bowls, and animal-headed drinking horns.

The vessels were decorated with various figures, such as animals alluding to the hunt, or women carrying food, flowers, and birds symbolizing the pleasures of the feast.
