## Caption

In ancient Persia, kings and aristocrats held ritual banquets where wine flowed freely from ornate gold and silver vessels.

These skillfully crafted luxury items were not simply utensils. They were instruments of statecraft, ritual objects, and markers of distinction that showed off their owner’s status, power, and identity.

The Getty Villa Museum holds one of the world’s most significant collections of silver from the Parthian Empire (247 BC – AD 224). You can see several of these vessels in the special exhibition “Persia: Ancient Iran and the Classical World,” through August 8.

You can also learn more about the Getty's Parthian luxury silver in our new digital exhibit at the link in bio.
