It's the last week to visit "Poussin and the Dance" at the Getty Center, closing this Sunday, May 8.

Nicolas Poussin’s 17th-century contemporaries tell us that he sketched constantly. His many highly finished drawings, often made after ancient objects, testify to his skill as a draftsman.

Poussin rarely used drawing to create new concepts on paper. Also unusually, his surviving preparatory drawings don't follow the expected progression—from compositional sketches, to life studies of individual figures, to full-scale drawings to prepare for a painting. Instead, Poussin made carefully arranged and lit schematic drawings of faceless figures, such as the one above.
