CW: violence

In Los Angeles in 1963, days after “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, protestors form a chain of outstretched limbs. The threatening tips of dark leather shoes surround them.

With their bodies, the protestors defy the threats around them in an act of refusal and a demand for justice.

Charles Brittin’s photographs are visual testaments to Los Angeles during the Civil Rights and Black Power Eras.
