Open this tackle box, and what do you expect to find?

Probably not a mini liquor bottle, crumpled cigarette pack, crucifix, or harmonica.

What do these have in common? They’re all lures that can get you "Hooked."

Known for his wry humor, artist and composer Benjamin Patterson attached fishing hooks to everyday objects in each section of his tackle box—making handling more than a bit tricky. You can easily get hooked!

Patterson was trained as a classical musician and worked at the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. He was also a social worker and was stationed in Germany for military service. He would routinely send additions of his work to Jean Brown for her archive.

"Hooked" is currently on view at the Getty Center as part of "Fluxus Means Change: Jean Brown's Avant Garde Archive" through January 2, 2022.
