In the early 1900s, zoos were often more about design than habitability, sometimes to the detriment of animals. Today, zoos go to great lengths to build eco-friendly and comfortable habitats.

dudley.zoo is one of the grant recipients of the Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern initiative, which supports a conservation management plan that focuses on the restoration of modernist structures.
