Who you calling a lyre? 👀 💫

To mark the beginning of the Lyrid meteor shower, which runs from today until April 25, get to know the constellation it's named for and the Greek myth behind it.

The Lyra constellation is the radiant of the meteors that dance across the sky during this annual shower. It's shaped like a lyre, or a string instrument similar to a small harp. In one tale from Greek mythology, Apollo, god of music, gifted the poet Orpheus a lyre.

Orpheus became, in short, a rock star. The music he played charmed animals, humans, and gods alike. Rivers were even said to change course to be near the sweet sounds of his music. After Orpheus's death, Apollo honored him by placing his lyre in the sky, which is the Lyra constellation we admire today.

Will you be watching the meteor shower this week? ☄️
