## Caption

December 6 marks the feast day for Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. It’s also known as Sinterklaas in the Dutch-speaking world.

Traditionally, children place their shoes next to the fireplace with a snack for “Sinterklaas’ horse.” Good children find candy or presents in their shoes, and bad children find horrid gifts (like coal or potatoes).

Sound familiar?

Unfortunately, the weeping boy in this drawing received twigs in his shoes instead of a gift.
