## Caption

Ever been to Nea Paphos? This UNESCO World Heritage site on the island of Cyprus is full of history—and the rare Cyprus hedgehog.

Still surviving today are beautiful mosaics that once decorated the floors of the island's ancient Roman residences and early Christian and Byzantine churches and shrines over 2,000 years ago.

Located just south of Turkey and west of Syria, Cyprus has been a historic and cultural crossroads for over two millennia.

Getty is working with the local government to protect these precious ancient mosaics, and ensure the site can be maintained for generations to come.
