Was the tea party interrupted? This still life features a Chinese famille-rose porcelain tea set on a painted tin tray, meant to imitate Asian lacquer.

The artist even captured the pale greenish-brown hue of the tea left in one of the cups. This helps us identify it as Bohea, the 18th-century trade name of an Oolong tea imported from China.
