🐝If you’re celebrating #WorldHoneyBeeDay by expressing gratitude to honey 🍯, take a moment to give thanks for just about everything else in your fridge, too. Our symbiotic relationship with the honey bee dates back over 9,000 years. Today, honey bees continue to be critical pollinators to everything from almonds to avocados, blueberries, apples, cherries, pomegranates, broccoli, coffee, dairy, and even cotton. And their disappearance means the disappearance of a third of our global crops and food supply—which would trigger a ripple effect of epic proportions.⠀
⠀
✔️Good news: probiotics could help save the bees.⠀
⠀
See, like humans (and dogs and birds and plants and corals and everything else), honey bees have a microbiome, too. But, their microbial ecosystems are perturbed by overuse of insecticides like neonicotinoids, climate change, and more, contributing to increased susceptibility to pathogens and Colony Collapse Disorder. But that also means, just like with humans, probiotics could be given to bees to bolster immunity and equip them with a better chance of adapting to these common stressors. ⠀
⠀
Local LA friends—we have a few open spots on our Field Trip next Saturday, claim one to come learn more about the bees and meet our #SeedLabs scientist who’s using microbes to help save them. ⬆️Tap over to Stories to find out how. 😉⠀
⠀
Friends elsewhere—seed.com/seedlabs to learn more about our honey bee work and stay tuned for some Field Trip Magic soon. 🤓😉⠀
