The latest in honey bee 🐝 news: the world's most widely-used (about 700,000 tons a year) weed-killer, glyphosate (think, Roundup), might be killing them off.⠀

In a new study at University of Texas at Austin, scientists exposed honey bees to glyphosate at typical crop field, yard, and roadside levels. Three days later, they found that these bees experienced a perturbed microbiome, making them more susceptible to infection and death from pathogenic bacteria. 😔Essentially, by killing off beneficial bacteria, glyphosate compromises the bee's ability to fight infection. It's becoming clear that herbicides like these may be yet another contributing factor to colony collapse disorder and the mass decline of bee populations worldwide.⠀
