Tough to miss, easy to love 🦒

Over the last 30 years, giraffe populations have declined by nearly 40% due to threats like habitat loss, climate change, and illegal poaching. But there's still hope. 

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is proud to co-lead the Twiga Track Initiative with communities in Kenya, which aims to attach satellite tracking units to 250 giraffes from all four subspecies in Africa. These on-the-ground efforts will allow researchers to better understand giraffe home ranges, seasonal migrations, habitat preferences, and the impacts of human infrastructure.
