Fun facts about the great monarch migration:

Monarchs are the only butterflies known to make a two-way migration like birds do

They travel between 50-100 miles/day

It can take up to 2 months to complete their journey

Scientists believe the magnetic pull of the earth and position of the sun help guide monarchs throughout their migration

There are 2 populations of migratory monarchs: Western monarchs range west of the Rocky Mountains and overwinter in coastal CA, and eastern monarchs range east of the Rockies and overwinter in Central Mexico

Monarchs cuddle in clusters to stay warm during winter
