You might have spotted a leucistic bird in your garden before, but have you ever seen a leucistic red kite? This image was captured by dgaynor_photography - What a spot!

Leucism is a blanket term for conditions that cause the lightening or whitening of the feathers (either partially or all over) as the cells responsible for melanin production are absent. Unlike albinism, leucism does not affect a birds eye colour.
