Books Inc., the Bay Area’s longest-standing independent bookseller at 174 years old, is seeking approval to be acquired by a Barnes & Noble affiliate for $3.25 million.
Books Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January, citing pressures from increasing operational costs and changes in consumer habits after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement from the company.
Despite the filing, Books Inc. CEO Andy Perham promised that “Books Inc. is not going away” in a previous press release.
