Dominican-American poet and writer Elizabeth Acevedo won the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Fiction for her debut adult novel “Family Lore”. The book centers on a Dominican-American family and intertwines the different voices of the Marte women spanning generations and encompassing past and present. It’s the first novel by Acevedo for adult readers following her young adult books including the award-winning “The Poet X”. Acevedo shared her excitement over the news in an Instagram post: ⁠
