## Caption

On Jan.1, 1959 Fidel Castro moved to establish political power forever changing Cuba. Judge Manuel Urrutia was named as provisional president and Castro along with guerrilla fighters entered Havana on January 7. Castro proclaimed himself Representative of the Rebel Armed Forces of the Presidency.  The communist party continues to control Cuba where, according to The Week, half of the population live on less than $1 a day. The repressive regime imprisons political dissenters for upwards of 20 years. The Communist Party, FKA  the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution, has kept the island as an authoritarian one-party state since 1959.
