Caramelized onions are simple and incredibly versatile, but they can take forever to make, especially in large quantities. Not anymore. We start by steaming the sliced onions in ¾ cup of water to quickly soften them. 15-20 more minutes in an uncovered pan will create that deep brown color we all love.
