Instagram has finally launched an iPad app…15 years after it debuted exclusively on iOS.

If you're coming from the iOS app, you'll notice a few differences. The homepage opens directly to the Reels page, with Stories at the top, and the navigation bar placed vertically on the left.

The non-Reels posts from people you follow are tucked under a new Following tab. It's divided into three parts: All, Friends, and Latest. Both All and Friends show recommended posts and reels from accounts you follow, with the key difference being that Friends only shows posts from accounts that follow you back.

The Latest section, on the other hand, arranges posts and reels in chronological order, with the most recent ones appearing first. You can, however, change the order based on your needs.

Instagram has made some tweaks to the iPad app to better use the larger screen. On Reels, tapping Comments opens them on the right so you can keep watching on the left – unlike mobile, where comments block the video. The same layout applies elsewhere: DMs show a split inbox/chat view, and notifications slide in from the left without pausing the main interface.

Instagram for iPad is free to download from the App Store. All you need is an iPad running iPadOS 15.1 and later.
