Viva o poder das mulheres! Rebeca Andrade is officially Brazil’s most decorated Olympian following her gold medal win Aug. 5. The 25-year-old gymnast  took the top spot in the floor final with a score of 14.166, narrowly beating out Simone Biles who took home silver with a score of 14.133. The friendly rivals, together with Jordan Chiles, who won the bronze medal, made history as the FIRST all-Black podium in men or women’s gymnastics at the Olympics. The three gymnasts have each shone bright throughout the Paris Olympics and in a show of mutual respect and admiration, both Biles and Chiles bowed down to Andrade on the podium.

“Rebeca’s so amazing, she’s a queen,” Biles said. “She’s such an excitement to watch and then all the fans in the crowd were always cheering for her, so it was just the right thing to do. It was an all-black podium so that was super-exciting for us, but then Jordan was like ‘should we bow to her?’ and I was like ‘absolutely’.”

Andrade is no stranger to making history when at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she became the first Brazilian woman to win Olympic medals in artistic gymnastics. Now she’s Brazil’s most decorated Olympian despite three ACL injuries proving she’s a force to be reckoned with.
