## Caption

Got the chance to observe Northern Saw-whet Owl banding at Indiana Dunes over the weekend. These guys are rarely detected fall migrants and winter residents in Illinois so it was really cool to see 8 different birds up close and personal like this. This banding operation happens every night during the fall at the dunes in an attempt to track long term population changes and understand timing of migration, etc. 

*all birds handled under proper federal permits*
