OFFICIAL: PRO HOCKEY IS RETURNING TO TRENTON, NEW JERSEY 🚨

Beginning for the 2026-27 season, the ECHL’s Utah Grizzles have confirmed they will be relocating under new ownership to Trenton’s CURE Insurance Arena, confirming a rumor from this past June & signaling the return of professional hockey in Mercer County! They’ll become the second pro hockey team to call New Jersey home - along with of course the Devils in Newark.

The Grizzles are currently affiliated with the Colorado Avalanche, but with a move across the country it should be expected a new affiliation with one of the local NHL organizations (Devils, Rangers, Islanders, Flyers, etc) will follow, though yet to be determined who that will be for.
Pure speculation, but the Devils agreement with their current ECHL affiliate, Adirondack Thunder, expires following this upcoming season which would open the door for New Jersey to re-affiliate with Trenton if it becomes an option, but that door remains to be seen.

Prior to 2013, Trenton housed the Devils ECHL squad known as the ‘Trenton Devils’ from 2006-2011, as well as the Flyers ECHL team known as the ‘Trenton Titans’ from 1999-2005 and again from 2011-2013 before ceasing operations.

The Grizzles are formally expected to announce the relocation on Tuesday, which will be followed by a contest to re-name the team.
