Do You Know The Way to Soccer City? Argentina vs S. Korea, Johannesburg, 2010 #WorldCup. Another guest at the guest house offered me a ticket to this game. We took the train out to Soccer City, as FNB Stadium was called for the duration of the World Cup. As we got out of the van at the train station, the guest house owner asked if we wanted him to pick us up from the train later. Like overconfident fools, we said no, we could get home on our own. We took the train home as well, but we got on the wrong light rail train and had an adventure. (Adventure usually means lost in Brenda-speak.) Eventually, we ended up at the train station close to our guest house, and, while looking lost, an off-duty World Cup volunteer took pity on us and helped us find a big enough taxi for the group of us (me, an American guy, and a bunch of Argentinian men) to get to the guest house we all called home.  We were staying in a guest house that was off the beaten path in a suburb of Johannesburg, and none of us knew all of the directions, but we finally figured it out, probably thanks to everyone having paid some attention at some point, and the help of some then-very expensive international data plans. When we got home, the gate to the property was locked, and no one would answer the phone to come unlock it, so we had to wake the whole guest house with the horn to get someone to let us in, like kids busted for being out after curfew. While we were more than half the guests, many of the staff lived on-site, so we used up all our goodwill that night. The lesson is to always have the directions home, and always have the guest house designate the responsible adult to have the combination to the gate if you're going to be out late.
