Isabella County is looking to pass its 2026 Proposed Budget by Sept. 30. However, the state budget bill passed by Michigan's House of Representatives aims to cut over $200,000 from Isabella County's revenue.

The state omnibus bill, which has the same deadline, has created uncertainty among local governments across the state. County Administrator Brian Smith says he is waiting to see how the final state bill may affect the county's budget.

“I budgeted $1.7 million (in revenue sharing), roughly, in this next year’s budget,” Smith said. “If they do a 12% cut, it’s going to be about $215,000 in cuts.”
