We are excited to launch our #WhyMoody series this semester, highlighting the dedicated academic advisors and career coaches at Moody College. Our staff is committed to helping #TEXASMoody students succeed during their time on the Forty Acres and beyond. Our first feature is Loren Cressler, associate director of the Career Center. Loren started at Moody College in March 2025 and has dedicated his time to building a dynamic new coaching team that meets the career needs of every student at the college. 

Loren has worked in higher-ed for nearly a decade. His educational career began while teaching English in Germany, and he moved to Austin, TX, to pursue his Ph.D. in English on the Forty Acres. He had a brief stint at Seattle University before returning to the University of Texas at Austin to work in professional development with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. 

“I know how talented and motivated Moody students are, and I know that they learn the skills in communication and relationship building that will serve them for their entire careers.”

Loren’s favorite part about working at Moody College has been the strong community. “It feels like a microcosm of UT as a whole. You can find people working on an amazing array of groundbreaking research and projects, and Moody students contribute to professional-quality, tangible products that invigorate the campus and our city.” 

His advice to students? “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and ask for advice and guidance. People will surprise you with how willing they are to help, especially when you are starting.”

Loren loves the Moody Bridge, and his favorite food near campus is the turkey and avocado sandwich at Kerbey Lane!
