Catch Usain Bolt on Puma duty in Tokyo 🇯🇲⚡️

Usain Bolt, who is in Tokyo on ambassadorial duty for longtime sponsor Puma and for World Athletics, shared his thoughts during a Puma press conference ahead of the World Championships.

On today’s new “super spikes,” Bolt admitted he was impressed by the advances in shoe technology:

“One individual that continued after I retired was actually Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. I saw what she did… she got the pass, and she got the spike. To be honest, I felt like I probably would have run way faster if I had continued. If I knew spikes looked like that, maybe I wouldn’t — because it wouldn’t be fair to compete, and I probably wouldn’t be that fast.”

On whether he was thinking about records during his career:

“It was never about breaking all the records. It was just about winning, trying to win Olympic gold medals. We put in a lot of work, especially in 2008, but it was always about being the best I could be. The records just happened.”

And does he think someone can break his 9.58 world record in the new spikes?

“Not worried. The talent is there, yes, but at this moment I don’t see many people who can do it. Not worried at all.”
