10 years since I’ve been in Beijing! So crazy to look back at these old pics from jeffcohenphoto and see baby Colleen, fresh out of college, navigating the world. It was my first time representing #TeamUSA and I was so green, so eager, and so… tired 😴 lol 

Honestly it breaks my heart now to watch this interview where the reporter asked me about how my season went and instead of saying “it’s been great! I won NCAAs, competed in my first diamond league, and qualified for Worlds!” I said… “long…” and went into how tired I was because I had been competing for such a long time through XC, indoor track, outdoor NCAAs and then an outdoor pro circuit. I had just started training with my new pro team and everything was kicking my butt. And I had been on anti-inflammatories for months to cover up pain in my plantar and hamstring. I was hanging on by a thread.

After the final (where I was 12th) I was walking under the stadium to get back to the warmup track when I saw my coach pascaldobert walking towards me and I just burst into tears. I didn’t even know why I was crying at the time but now I can see how much pressure I was putting on myself and when I saw the face of someone I knew truly cared about me I just let myself break down.

I share all this to say that even when it looks perfect from the outside, you never know what someone might be dealing with. We’re all just doing the best we can in this world, ya know?

I’m so grateful to be back in Beijing this weekend for the worldathletics Continental Tour. I’m racing a 3k at 7:25pm local time tomorrow (which is 4:25PT and 7:25ET) and you can watch on flotrack with a subscription.
