North Korea has been suspected of stealing approximately $3 billion in dozens of cyber attacks between 2017 and 2023 and using it to fund nuclear weapons, UN sanctions monitors reported this week.

"The panel is investigating 58 suspected DPRK cyberattacks on cryptocurrency-related companies between 2017 and 2023, valued at approximately $3 billion, which reportedly help fund DPRK's Weapons of Mass Destruction development," the UN monitors wrote. The money was then used to further develop nuclear weapons, the monitors said, all while Kim Jong Un continued conducting missile launches and added a "tactical nuclear attack submarine” to its fleet.

Pyongyang has previously denied allegations of hacking or other cyber-attacks.
