Here are my top tips for integrating a foster kitten with your solo kitty: 

🐾 Separate rooms.
Cats are creatures of habit. They need to know where it’s safe to sleep, escape loud noises, and avoid anything that makes them feel unsafe. Having separate rooms is *ESSENTIAL*. 
  For the first week, there should be no interaction. I’d let Miso come to the top of the stairs, but I never let her near the kittens. This way, they got used to each other’s scents. Sometimes, I’d bring a toy from the kittens downstairs so Miso could smell it. This helped her become familiar with their presence. 

🐾 Foster 2 kittens at a time.
You’d probably think 1 would be easier, but in my opinion, it’s the *opposite*. The kittens entertained each other instead of trying to play with Miso. If you only have 1 kitten, they’re going to look for someone to socialize with—and it’s better that it’s not your cat at first. When kittens are young, they still have time to form bonded pairs with one another. I wish I’d gotten Miso adapted to other cats earlier in life so she wasn’t so anti-sibling now. 

🐾 The kittens never slept in my bed at night.
That’s Miso’s space, and I wanted to respect that. Boundaries are key! 

🐾 Patience and Attention.
Your cats aren’t going to get along just because you want them to—you *cannot* force this. You have to show both parties equal affection and use your intuition to feel out if they’re ready to explore each other or if they need space.
