LOS ANGELES, CA, SEPTEMBER 11, 2025 — On September 14, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will debut Jaws: The Exhibition, the institution’s first large-scale exhibition devoted to a single film. This expansive presentation is the largest ever dedicated to Universal Pictures’ groundbreaking summer blockbuster, which won three Academy Awards and received a Best Picture nomination. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975), the exhibition will remain on view through July 26, 2026.

Looking ahead, the Academy Museum has also announced that in 2028 it will honor Steven Spielberg with the first-ever retrospective exhibition dedicated to his transformative career, offering visitors an unprecedented look into his creative process and cinematic legacy.

“This exhibition is awesome,” said Spielberg. “Every room reveals the details of how this picture came together, and it proves how this industry is truly a collaborative art form. It only works when the best people fill the right roles. I’m proud to be part of it, and now audiences can come to the Academy Museum and experience it for the first time.”

Senior Exhibitions Curator Jenny He added: “It’s hard to believe this day has arrived. I’ve watched Jaws countless times, yet it continues to thrill and captivate me, as it has audiences worldwide for five decades. Bringing this story to life through the exhibition has been a joy.”

Housed in the Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery, Jaws: The Exhibition transforms Spielberg’s classic into a multi-gallery journey for audiences of all ages. Featuring more than 200 original objects—many never before displayed publicly—the exhibition includes scene breakdowns, interactive installations, and behind-the-scenes stories. Highlights include:

* Archival materials: Spielberg’s annotated script, storyboards, Joe Alves’s shark concept sketches, Roger Kastel’s artwork for the iconic poster, and John Williams’s sheet music.
* Production objects: The original clapper board, Verna Fields’s Moviola editing machine, Panavision Underwater Camera, and original props such as Quint’s fighting chair, Hooper’s shark cage, Ben Gardner’s prop head, and components of the Orca.
* Recreations and interactives: The Amity Island billboard, Quint’s chalkboard, themed cabanas, along with interactive experiences including a dolly zoom recreation, shark operation controls, and opportunities to play Williams’s unforgettable two-note score.
* Promotional history: Original posters from around the world, merchandise such as toys, patches, cereal boxes, and Universal theme park collectibles.

The exhibition follows the narrative arc of the film, presented in six immersive sections—from “The Unseen Danger” to “Into the Deep”—with a concluding gallery exploring the film’s lasting cultural impact.

To celebrate the opening, the museum will host a special 4K screening of Jaws on September 14. The Academy Museum Store will also unveil an exclusive line of commemorative merchandise, including a 50th anniversary vinyl pressing of John Williams’s Oscar-winning score (produced with Mondo), a limited-edition poster, apparel, toys, and collectibles.

Jaws: The Exhibition is the fifth major installation to occupy the Katzenberg Gallery, following Hayao Miyazaki (2021–22), Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 (2022–23), John Waters: Pope of Trash (2023–24), and Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema. An advisory group supporting the project includes ocean conservationist Wendy Benchley, USC Professor J.D. Connor, sound mixer Peter J. Devlin, and editor Terilyn A. Shropshire.
