On Friday, September 12th, SUNY Potsdam Director of Athletics Mark Misiak announced that Mike Grace will serve as the interim head coach for the Bears’ men’s ice hockey program. 

Bennett, a native of Rochester, NY, is a graduate of Plattsburgh State where he played from 2009-2013. In 105 career games for the Cardinals, Grace accumulated 10 goals & 42 assists for 52 points. The Cardinals won two #SUNYAC titles during his tenure as he was also a two-time #AHCA All-American.

Grace would move into the pro hockey ranks after college, suiting up for the Mississippi River Kings of the #SPHL for four seasons. In 223 games, Grace put together 12 goals & 77 assists for 89 points. He was named to the SPHL All-Rookie team in 2013-2014.

Shifting into coaching the following season from hanging up his skates, Grace spent three seasons as a graduate assistant coach at King’s College from 2017-2020. He spent two seasons in the junior hockey ranks with the Maine Eclipse and Boston Junior Rangers before returning to the college ranks.

For the last three seasons, Grace was an assistant coach at Elmira College with former Bears coach, Aaron Saul. The Soaring Eagles earned one trip to the #NCAA Men’s National Tournament while also a qualifying for the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) playoffs in each season. Grace oversaw the defense and special teams while assisting in recruiting and hockey operations.

The Bears open the regular season on Friday, October 31st, at Fredonia State.
