Just before the start of the school year, members of the Class of 2026 attended our Senior Companions Retreat in Midland, Ontario, Canada, held at the site of the North American Martyrs Shrine.

The group prayed and celebrated Mass at the site of the saints' martyrdom, visited their burial site and also celebrated Mass at the altar of St. Pope John Paul II’s visit 40 years ago.

The students spent the three-day, two-night retreat without any phones or technology.

The retreatants were: Zack Benczkowski, Luke Boryszak, Aidan Devans, Elliott DeRose, Nazariy Drofych, Gianni Latella, Broderick Murray, Justin Ostempowski, Anthony Pepe, Charles Pollock, Michael Riad, Nicholas Scime, Atticus Young.

Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Chuck Frederico led the retreat with Campus Ministers Ron Ahrens '91 and Mikayla Fulton.

"We looked at the history of the martyrs, its significance for the Church and the Society, the Jesuit relationship with the Huron Natives, and how this context pertains to the students in their discernment for college and life as men of faith," Frederico said. "We also shared stories at a bonfire about what a gift Canisius High School is to each of us."

Next week will see the first of our school-year retreats as students and adult group leaders lead the 128th edition of Kairos, our hallmark retreat for juniors.
