Gilles Villeneuve emerged unscathed from an almighty crash at the corner that would later bear his name, On This Day 45 years ago. 💥 Early on in the Imola-hosted Italian Grand Prix, a puncture at the flat-out right hand curve sent his Ferrari 312T5 into the wall with enough force to tear the rear of the car completely off. 🫣

The following day, ahead of a team press conference in Modena, Villeneuve was warmly greeted by Enzo Ferrari - resulting in legendary photographer Ercole Colombo's favourite snapshot! 😘📸
