“Nothing compares to diving in the kelp forest of Catalina, California.

The kelp forest is always changing with the seasons. These shots were taken at the beginning of winter, when the kelp is actually at its weakest. After the warm summer and fall waters, the kelp thins out and turns a golden color. But as the temperatures drop throughout winter, the kelp roars back to life, growing dense and towering again. Kelp is one of the fastest growing life forms on the planet!

The amount of life in this forest is staggering. Schools of fish weaving through the canopy, cephalopods lurking in the shadows, massive 500-pound bass cruising by, colorful nudibranchs and other macro critters hidden in plain sight, and even birds diving through from above.
It’s an enchanted world. The kelp sways in the surge, sunlight filters through in golden beams, and you feel like you are swimming through an underwater forest on another planet."
