I've been seeing this image resurface lately.
I took this photo in 2021 at a rally where, once again, a government wasn't listening to us. 

My face has changed slightly. My rage hasn’t dimmed. My fight hasn’t ended.
I was tired. I was angry. I was grieving.
And not enough has changed.

The pain of living in a world where women, children and queer people are not safe — it’s unbearable. We carry the weight of names we’ve buried, stories that were never told, and screams that went unheard.

Today, womenforchangesa hand over the letter demanding that Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) be declared a National Disaster. 

I want to say: I still believe in us.
In our power. In our resistance. In our refusal to be silent.
Yes, we are still grieving. Still organising. Still shouting for justice in a system that continues to silence us.
We have cried, marched, mourned, fought.
Yet we are still here and  are still rising.
We are still demanding that the world sees us, hears us, and protects us.

South Africa is bleeding — and so is the world. But we are not alone. When we rise in solidarity, across provinces, across borders, we remind the world that survivors are not disposable. That our lives matter.

To every survivor: We carry you.
To every sister fighting: We stand with you.
To the organisers, the advocates, the ones who show up again and again — thank you.
Thank you to womenforchangesa for organising, mobilising, and holding the line as always. The women that you are consistently leave me in awe.

We will not give up. We will not stop demanding more.

Let’s keep raising hell until every life is valued. Until this war on our bodies ends.

GBVF IS A NATIONAL DISASTER. DECLARE IT. ACT ON IT. END IT.
