This film is a love letter to little Lilly, and to any other person who has felt awkward af around the topic of sex or sexuality. Through the writing, filming and promotion of this project, I’ve healed so much of my trauma. I’ve never felt sexier, more comfortable in my body, or more confident around my sexuality. 

The response to this new found confidence has been overwhelmingly positive. And if it’s negative, what’s interesting is that it’s always framed as “don’t dress like that, be yourself!” As if being sexually empowered and confident couldn’t possibly be who I actually am. 

I think one of the reasons I’ve struggled my whole life is because the idea of being an Indian woman seems synonymous with not being sexual. There’s always been an expectation that I should not talk about sex, not feel sexy and not enjoy anything sexual. And then suddenly, I was supposed to figure it out, get married and have kids like a pro. 

But I unsubscribe to that. And society will simply have to catch up. 

It’s time to normalize the convo… and laugh our asses off while doing it. Tell your didi, massi, chachi, pooa, thai and eyebrow lady that #DoinItMovie is in theaters now! I thank you wholeheartedly for your support ❤️
