“It’s a living thing, and it’s like having a pet that needs a lot of attention,” Angela says of her new, thoroughly copper kitchen. “But the way it changes with the light throughout the day and in different seasons is quite fascinating.” The copper—which makes cameos throughout the home—ended up costing Angela and Xavier about $29,174 USD, which is no small line item. But for the couple, it made their house a home. There was always a lot to like about the ‘70s off-the-plan structure. For the couple, the double-height ceilings and sun-drenched spaces were a drawcard when they bought the four-bedder in 2013. But, 10 years on, they had well and truly outgrown its awkward layout. So, in 2017, the couple called out to Angela’s childhood friend Jane Caught of heliotope_studio to guide a renovation. And while revamping the stairway, rethinking the bedrooms and en suites, and adding a home office were impactful moves, the real magic happened in the kitchen—particularly with that metalwork. “Renovations can end up looking very similar, and I just wanted something a little bit different,” Angela explains. “Once we saw the copper, we were like, yeah, definitely.” Swipe to see Angela and Xavier’s budget, and read their full #BudgetBreakdown at the link in bio.
